This amazing 19th century piece is from Gan Su province, in the silk road region. The wood is a type of jujube, a very heavy, dense wood with beautiful swirls of grains. Solid single boards of wood were used. This will ensure stability with the weights placed on it. Exotic, folk artsy images remain visible. A pair of young foo dogs are the main feature, they symbolize good fortune and security. Birds and flowers bring beauty and peace.
