This beautiful panel depicts one of the scenes in the famed Chinese " West Chamber Love Story". Man and woman accidentally met at woman's family garden sparking love. The story celebrates freedom of love at a time when all marriages were arranged by parents with husband and wife never meeting until the wedding night.
The demure coyness of the lady and the inquisitive reservation of the man is well expressed. Contrasting gold and silver adds to the luster of the piece. Pine trees symbolizes longevity. Details such as floor tiles, decorated walls and fences made this piece truly special.
