A white Chinese carved horseshoe back "Jiao Yi" folding chair, 20th c., with substantial brass enforcement and decorations, a continuous back to arm rail terminating in scrolled handholds over a rattan seat, rising on brass braced angular legs with a solid footrest featuring brass corners and interlocking diamonds. The back splat has a carved grass dragon medallion above detailed feature of a Qi Lin under clouds. Solid brass bars provide extra support and aesthetic appeal. The "Jiao Yi" is the most honored seat in the Chinese culture, traditionally used only by the member of the family with the highest status. Seat height 22".
