A highly sophisticated scholar's cabinet from turn of the century. Solid wood throughout, mitered, tenon and mortise construction. Contrast of dark rosewood and natural color elm wood with beautiful grains. Elegant mirrored top chest. Doors of bottom chest are inlaid with antique marble cutouts in shape of auspicious symbols such as peach, gourd and censer. A narrow long drawer to store long scrolls. Elaborate apron with a typical early 20th century "dragon and circle" feature decorate the chest, adding more visual interest. Original, solid brass intricate RuYi style drawer pulls and Double Happiness hardware for the doors. Removable interior shelves. The two chests are unconnected individuals, they can be stacked to form a cabinet or separately to serve as two units. A classy, beautiful piece.
