A pair of large, sold wood, all original, early 19th century Chinese Provincial Horseshoe Chairs. The solid, 2" thick, rounded crest rail is constructed with one single continuous bend. The arms protrude over the front posts with graceful outward curve. Gently curved back splat with carved deer and ruyi tenons into the wide rectangular seat. There posts descend into the sides of the seats, which are secured by a pair of double stretchers and a front apron carved with "tiger's mouth" scrolls. The legs are made of beautiful bent wood which extend to the entire front and back, making them one continuous piece. All original with beautiful natural patina. This pair of provincial "Quan Yi" (horseshoe chair) is a symbol of prosperity and honor in vernacular China, its timeless style remains relevant in the modern interior. In remarkable condition, stable and solid, all parts firmly intact.
