This extraordinary mirror is a stylized octagon formed by the curved, pointy edges resembling lotus petals. Phoenixes and peonies circle the main area further emphasize the auspicious design. The central knob was pierced through to enable tying of silk ribbons allowing the lady to hold the mirror easily. Such a mirror was a lady's treasured possession in ancient China. It would have been polished to a high shine to present its owner her own reflection. This piece was made in a later day in its original Tang dynasty style.
