A wonderful Tibetan bronze statue of Bodhisattva Manjushri, the embodiment of transcendent wisdom. According to legend, Manjushri used his sword to cut through the mountains and release water, bringing precious water resources to irrigate the dry valleys. He is traditionally associated with the sword of wisdom, symbolically cutting through ignorance and illusion. Manjushri is depicted seated in vajrasana upon an elaborately modeled lotiform base. His raised right hand holds a sword, while his left hand is held in jnana mudra, the gesture of knowledge and teaching. He is richly adorned with necklaces, armlets and other jewels and dressed in a finely detailed dhoti. Flowing ribbons and elaborate decorative elements surrounding the figure give the sculpture a particularly elegant and dynamic silhouette.
The face is beautifully composed with a serene, gentle smile, half-closed meditative eyes and delicately arched eyebrows. His hair is arranged in elaborate buns beneath an ornate crown embellished with beaded decoration. The bronze retains a handsome deep black-brown patina with naturally developed variations from age, lending warmth and character while highlighting the finely cast details. A beautifully balanced devotional sculpture that is equally compelling displayed on an altar, mantel, pedestal or as an important focal point in any interior.
