Pair of Chinese Wedding Baskets, Republic Era, Ornate, Signed.
Here we have a pair of unique wedding baskets from early 20th century. These baskets are beautiful with ornate carved side panels. The use of red lacquer and gilt provides a visual contrast against the mainly black basket, although the basket itself does have gilded flowers on its side. A hovering lion over the flowers symbolize protection and good fortune. Graceful scrolls decorate the sides. The baskets have original holes where bamboo poles would have been inserted for transportation purpose. Maker's sign on the top bar date these pieces to year 1930.
Solid wood. Hand carved. Tenons and mortises. Dimensions are of each piece.
