A rare collection of 5 antique wood statues of Chinese Bodhisattvas. All seated in horseshoe round back chairs, the collection features Celestial Empress (front row center), flanked by an Imperial General (right) and an Imperial Advisor (left), backed by Goddess and Governor of Heaven. Carved of solid wood, with hand painted details and raised adornments on garments. Remanent of original gildings. These pieces are from Fu Jian province, made in distinctive vernacular style, all expressing devotion and gratitude to the Gods for their blessings.
