A fine example of Han Dynasty style animal sculpture. The five-clawed dragon has one front talon open in pursuit of its subject, while the other three are firmly planted on the ground. The head strains forward with mouth open in a roar between back-swept whiskers and below bulging eyes, the back of the robust body outlined in rigid spine continuing to a curled tail. Great exhibition of muscles and scales. A symbol of power and prosperity.
